Protect Our Paths is dedicated to keeping South Africa’s public spaces clean and waste-free. Through our custodianship program, we empower individuals from low-income backgrounds to remove litter from beaches, trails, and public areas while educating communities on sustainable waste management.
By partnering with like-minded organizations and mobilizing support, we work towards a cleaner, greener future for all. Together, we can protect and restore the paths that connect us to nature.
Custodian Locations
Protect Our Paths Foundation supports 7 Custodians across 5 different locations & has ambitious goals to scale our custodian program to sensitive areas across the country, uplifting the people who need it most.
Protect our Paths
Protect our Paths provides value across 3 main areas:
Waste Management
Effectively reducing litter, removing harmful materials from natural spaces
before it becomes a persistent pollutant.
Public Education
Educating beachgoers & trail users on the environmental impact of
pollution, whilst encouraging proper waste disposal.

Community Empowerement
Empowering individuals to become custodians of natural spaces. Providing and facilitating donations, uniform and a sense of belonging.
How do I help?

Whilst there are many ways to support us, the most simple, easiest and cheapest method is the one we advocate for: pick up waste!

We are all capable of making the little differences to our environment that add up to make large impacts, and sometimes these little mindset shifts are the beginning of something big. Once we start to really care for our environments, this care extends throughout our life.
